Melissa + Michael – Portola Valley

I’ve been looking forward to this wedding for a long time.  Mainly because it’s in my neighborhood, seeing as I live in Redwood City.  I ride my bike on these backroads, and I love looking at all the Coastal Live Oak, hoping to stumble upon some chanterelle mushrooms in a leaf pile.  I love the light that filters through the trees, the autumnal grass blanched a golden honey, and the way the wind whispers through the canopy when you sit somewhere in stillness.  How could the day get any better?  Well, both Melissa and Michael are uber chill people, along with both sides of the family.  Heck, I even keep bees at their house.  After our first meeting it came up (well, I always seem to be able to mention my bees in any conversation) and Melissa’s mom was interested in having a few hives on their property.  So not only am I their photographer, I am also the family beekeeper!  Does it get any better than that?  I think not!

But enough foreplay.  Let’s get to the wedding day, because it was amazing; filled with love and emotion like a good wedding should be.  Enjoy!

Katie + Kevin – Berkeley Faculty Club

Two of the nicest people I ever met.  Seriously.  And they live in LA.  How can this be?  I don’t have an answer for you, because it still boggles my mind.  Just kidding LA! (?).  Katie and Kevin were consistently making sure my assistant and I were taken care of.  Did we have water?  Were we feeling OK?  Did we get enough to eat? It’s easy to get swept up in the big day, but I have somehow have a knack for working with couples that don’t really sweat the small stuff.  They are all about the love.  Family and friends.  Good times.  Now I am not saying a wedding shouldn’t be planned well and full of lots of fun details, but it’s a fine line.  Perfection can have it’s consequences.  Luckily this day everything went so smoothly, all I had to do was concentrate on finding great moments and great light.  I think we got a few.  Enjoy!

Melissa + Jason – Hillsborough Racquet Club

I met Melissa at a Bridal Fair at the Ritz-Carlton over a year ago.  It’s amazing how time flies.  Before you know it, you’re driving around in a Rolls Royce after a gorgeous ceremony and off to the Hillsborough Racquet Club.  The day was entirely perfect.  Friends and family witnessed and enjoyed a wonderful bond of two people in love, and a damn fine party.  Come take a look!

Mary + Hai

June in the city can be fickle.  Maybe the weather is good – sunshine and a bit of warmth – but most times there’s a nice coating of fog.  We had both for Mary and Hai’s wedding, which was great, because the look and feel of the photos were so contrasting.  The great thing about Mary and Hai is that they are very photo-centric.  They budgeted time to cruise around the city and capture some places they thought were cool.  I had a blast wrangling this crew around, spit-balling ideas to shoot, and talking smack with the boys here and there.  What follows is a pretty killer day.

Kristina + Manny

A fine summer’s day blessed Manny and Kristina’s wedding.  The light was gorgeous and everyone was all smiles.  It doesn’t get better than that!  I’m light on the words today because I have to get out the door, but I wanted to post the images before the weekend is here.  Enjoy!

Kyra + Matt

A gorgeous drive up the coast.  Fire spinning.  Camping out.  A multi-day affair.  How and why do I get myself into these positions?  I get lucky and I love them!  Yes, it’s a lot of work, but when you’ve got clients committed to creating a magical day where the main goal is happiness, community, and an unreal party, going the extra mile is completely worth it.  Kyra and Matt married near Ukiah in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains, water, friends, and love.

Melissa + Jason

I’ve been having tons of luck with the weather recently.  That’s in stark contrast to last year, when we had a pretty rainy spring, and I was hoofing it around Pt. Reyes in the rain.  Melissa, Jason, and I met at the Palace of Fine Arts, and not only was the weather holding up, but there was a noticeable lack of humans that I found sort of ominous and advantageous.  I guess they were all out somewhere else enjoying the day.   And so with Zeus in good spirits, the sun shone down upon us, refracting through brambles, off columns, and making all of us look oh so good.  Don’t believe me?  Check it out!

Kristen + Ryan – Stern Grove Wedding

In the editing cave, my iPhone is rocking out to whatever Pandora deems a proper genre-specific song. I close the curtains to block out the hot sun that filters through the double doors leading to my garden, and bury my head to edit.  As I go through the photos, I’ll laugh and giggle about the funny times and quiet moments that I spent with the bride and groom.  I’ll get all sappy when it comes to the ceremony.  And when I get to the cake part of things, I get hungry and leave for a break in the kitchen.  Going through Kristen and Ryan’s wedding was no exception.  The mood was light and fluffy.  Nothing could go wrong.  Well, nothing that we couldn’t fix anyway.  We had a serious bow-tie incident in which we managed a work around, we found the lost button mixed within the grass and flowers, and the table cloth had dried out sufficiently.  We were on fire.  And that perfection carried right on through the ceremony, as the passion they share for each other was easily recognizable and conquered all.  I loved every minute of it, because real love was in the air.  It was palpable, honest, and forthcoming – and nothing says love like a groom getting all teary-eyed – but you’ll have to head in to see more of that.  But oh what a day…

Mary + Hai

Yep, it’s been a while.  I’ve been busy though.  I joined a new gym, I’ve been walking a lot…  Just kidding, I didn’t join a new gym, but with another wedding season just around the corner, and only a few spots left for 2012, you can bet it’s going to be a wild ride this year!  I’m really looking forward to 2012, as I have some amazing couples that I ‘ll be working with.  Mary and Hai are an example of what’s to come.  Creative, warm-hearted, and fun-inspired, these two are a kick to be around.  One thing you should know – Mary’s a planner.  She had ideas for the session ready to be put into action.  I was game, and the photos turned out great.  We found lots of color even on a gray day thanks to her recon.  Here’s a smattering of a few of my favorites.

Enjoy!

Mary + Hai, just having a good time.

Kristina + Tri

I have nothing against cats, but I have to admit, I am a dog person.  Could be because I am slightly allergic to them, that in my opinion they don’t do much, and they are ill-tempered when they feel like it.  Dogs on the other hand…  Tails wagging, happy to see you, greeting you at the door; now this is my kind of animal.  Maybe that’s why Kristina and I got along so well.  She’s a dog lover, as is Tri.  Maybe I’ve said this before?  I don’t know,  it’s too cold in my house to worry about these things.  (Our heater crapped out, it’s 50 degrees inside, and no one can get here for 2 more days.  Brilliant).   Either way, I was thrilled to photograph their wedding and reception at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in downtown San Francisco.  Actually, the ceremony was held in the lobby of The Merchants Exchange, which was a very cool space in its own right, but I digress…

We had a gorgeous day, everything went to plan, and the girls ordered pizza in the room while getting ready, which means I got to eat pizza in the room.  It also made me fearful that someone would slop marinara on the dress, but that didn’t happen either.  Phew.  What follows are some great photos from a fine day.

Enjoy!
