Ritz Carlton Bridal Fair Success!

It was great to see so many faces yesterday at the Ritz Carlton in downtown San Francisco.  I think we were short a few people due to the 49ers playing and successfully moving onto the NFC Championship.  Obviously a tough game ahead, but we shall prevail!  Anyway, getting back on task, if you stopped by the booth to say hello, thank you.  We received some nice compliments, but my favorite among many was utter by Anna when she said this, “Your photos capture the essence of the couples and family.  Your photos are real.”  Aww, my heart sank.  My job as a visual storyteller is wrapped up that gem of a nutshell.

Didn’t get a chance to meet me yesterday?  That’s cool.  Shoot me an email or call so we can set up a meeting at the studio.  But don’t wait too long!  Space is limited and weekends are booking up.  Looking forward to hearing from you!

Steve + Abbie – Lake Tahoe Wedding

When a really good friend comes to the table to cash in his chips, what’s a guy to do but say yes?  Steve and Abbie are dear friends, and I was stoked and honored to have been asked to photograph their Lake Tahoe beach wedding.  A few caveats were laid down if I was going to do this baby pro-bono publico.  I had to enjoy some craft brew made by one of his friends (check)… and I think… that was it.  Wait, does that mean I will work for beer?  Possibly, but if we haven’t known each other for almost 2 decades, it’s not gonna happen.  Holy crap I am getting old!  But what photographer worth his or her salt wouldn’t want to capture a stunning bride in one of the world’s most pristine places.  Steve, you’re not so bad yourself, but that dress Abbie!  I loved it.  The ceremony was short and sweet, with tons of love and energy floating through the air.  What follows is short and sweet as well, but I am sure you’ll enjoy it.  And no brother, you didn’t burn down any bridges; although I may be needing a place to crash when the pow comes 🙂

Allied Arts Guild Wedding Photography – Katie + Edward – Menlo Park Wedding

I love it when weddings are just a hop, skip, and a jump away from my house.  Living down in Redwood City, the Allied Arts Guild is super close for me. One less stress for me, as I hate having to find parking! The day couldn’t have been more relaxing, as my bride Katie is a pretty mellow cupcake, and not to mention that the grounds are simply stunning.  There’s always something in bloom at this magical location, and we had our fair share of blossoms make an appearance.  It was pretty cool to see an amazing couple blooming into something more as well.  Katie and Edward are both go-getters, and are forging ahead to new frontiers – literally – as Edward accepted a fellowship on the east coast to pursue his career in medicine. California knows both will be missing the amazing weather that we have here in the Bay Area, so she cooperated in sending us the perfect day on her behalf.

With close friends and family in attendance, everyone watched this love-filled ceremony as these two exchanged vows and tied the knot.  Katie and Edward, I am honored to have been a part of your wedding. Congratulations again with everything.  All the best!

Chrissie + Ryan – Evergreen Lodge Wedding – Woodland Wedding

I used to live down in San Clemente, CA. It’s one of the best places I’ve ever lived in my life; if not the best.  It’s got the sun and surf, pretty much perfect weather, and amazing outdoor possibilities to pursue if you’re that type.  The only downside for me is, at times, life can get a little busy.  LA encroaches.  You can hit a mean traffic jam at times.  Things can get a little superficial what with Hollywood being so close.  And so when I needed a break now and then, I would turn to the Ocean.  Sometimes I would go even farther, and head over to Catalina Island.  Once I would step on the ferry, the hubbub in my head would slowly start to file away.

Fast forward many years, and now life around here can seem a little “go go go”.  That’s why I was really looking forward to Chrissie and Ryan’s wedding.  For me , Evergreen Lodge is like Catalina Island – maybe in some ways it’s even better.  Driving up highway 120, wildflowers are in bloom and the occasional deer scatter along the side of the road.  Fields of grass ebb and flow in the wind, painting on an infinite canvas while endlessly entertaining the daydreamer in me.  Motoring up through the foothills, my phone started to lose service.  “Yes!” was my secret inner response.  It’s so healthy to be cut off from the noise once in a while.  And as I entered down the long road to the lodge, the silence and beauty started to overtake me.  The green enveloped me.  And I smiled with a deep breath, as a feeling of relaxation washed over me.

Over the next few days, I drank a few brews, ate many a meal, and captured some great images of a perfect day.  Wait, this is work right?! Ha! I have a pretty damn good job indeed.  Chrissie and Ryan, I wish you nothing but the best for today, tomorrow, and what lies down the road.  Salud!

Angela + Rodel – Hiddenbrooke Country Club – Vallejo

Angela and Rodel were graced with an absolutely perfect wedding.  There was nary a cloud in the sky, the weather being a classic Californian fall day.  Stands of oak and willow surrounded the grounds, and I knew there would be some great opportunities once the light softened a bit later in the day.  In the meantime, I just went back and forth from Rodel and Angela, happily snapping away the events as they unfolded.

Josephine + Jason – Crystal Springs & San Francisco Conference Center

Every wedding has something unique about it.  There’s an identity, a fingerprint if you will, and that’s how people will remember your big day.  As a photographer who specializes in weddings, I’ve seen my fair share.  But there are always specific moments I remember that define the day.  Smiles, laughter, and love emanate from these two, along with their friends and family, but that description is more of a general feeling.  Divulging a more thorough list of emotional content, I remember the tenderness in which Josephine’s dad gave her away.  I remember Jason’s brother’s speech.  I remember tears, laughter, and happiness.  I remember the rib-eye.  And for that last one, you’ll have to go a little deeper.  Enjoy!

Angela + Rodel – Engagement Session

I looked at my calendar and thought, “Man, we need to get this thing rolling.  She’s only got a few months until her wedding.”  I called Angela up and the first words out of her mouth were, “I was just going to call you and schedule something.”  I was glad we were on the same page,  A few weeks later we met in Pinole for a laid back Sunday session.  I think Rodel tried to re-schedule because the Niners were playing, but there was no turning back on this one, and besides, he could easily catch the second half, which is the better part of most games anyhow.  We had a gorgeous day in the east bay, and you could feel the change in the air.  Autumn had arrived.  Definitely my favorite season.

Melissa + Michael – Portola Valley

I’ve been looking forward to this wedding for a long time.  Mainly because it’s in my neighborhood, seeing as I live in Redwood City.  I ride my bike on these backroads, and I love looking at all the Coastal Live Oak, hoping to stumble upon some chanterelle mushrooms in a leaf pile.  I love the light that filters through the trees, the autumnal grass blanched a golden honey, and the way the wind whispers through the canopy when you sit somewhere in stillness.  How could the day get any better?  Well, both Melissa and Michael are uber chill people, along with both sides of the family.  Heck, I even keep bees at their house.  After our first meeting it came up (well, I always seem to be able to mention my bees in any conversation) and Melissa’s mom was interested in having a few hives on their property.  So not only am I their photographer, I am also the family beekeeper!  Does it get any better than that?  I think not!

But enough foreplay.  Let’s get to the wedding day, because it was amazing; filled with love and emotion like a good wedding should be.  Enjoy!

Melissa + Jason – Hillsborough Racquet Club

I met Melissa at a Bridal Fair at the Ritz-Carlton over a year ago.  It’s amazing how time flies.  Before you know it, you’re driving around in a Rolls Royce after a gorgeous ceremony and off to the Hillsborough Racquet Club.  The day was entirely perfect.  Friends and family witnessed and enjoyed a wonderful bond of two people in love, and a damn fine party.  Come take a look!

Melissa and Jason, seeing eye to eye.

Mary + Hai

June in the city can be fickle.  Maybe the weather is good – sunshine and a bit of warmth – but most times there’s a nice coating of fog.  We had both for Mary and Hai’s wedding, which was great, because the look and feel of the photos were so contrasting.  The great thing about Mary and Hai is that they are very photo-centric.  They budgeted time to cruise around the city and capture some places they thought were cool.  I had a blast wrangling this crew around, spit-balling ideas to shoot, and talking smack with the boys here and there.  What follows is a pretty killer day.
